Fun on the Web vol 2 Issue 46 - Dec 8, 2003

Fun on the weekly websites and other chuckles
Volume 2 Issue 46, December 8, 2003

Back from my trip and it was an adventure, but apparently
almost 7000 miles in three weeks is too much adventure
for me since I returned to town with a rip-roaring cold/
flu/respiratory infection which will keep me close to
home for a while. The trip started as an all driving
event but it gradually morphed to the point where only
the first 2450 miles were over the road.

Phew am I glad they talked me out of driving the whole
thing! The drive was great! I would have liked more time
in a few places but I was scheduled to pick up my sister
who met me in Phoenix for the final leg to Los Angeles.
In future days, I will post many of the pictures I took
on http://bluesbaby.8k.com

Some of them will be from a great night out in Vancouver
at the historic Yale Hotel
http://www.theyale.ca/
where we had a chance to see Jim Byrnes and his band.
http://people.delphiforums.com/plmackey/jim_byrnes/
They were fabulous and I am looking forward to seeing
them again but the above website does not appear to be
updated sooo if any of you hear of them playing near you
PLEASE let me know. Thanks!

Travel distance were estimated from travel sites

Once again I missed a chance to get to Cozys
http://www.cozysblues.com/
which is just down the road from my sister's house.

They regularly feature musicians like Eric Sardinas
http://www.ericsardinas.com/
who will be there this Friday and Saturday, Rod Piazza
who I just missed on my last trip, but did see at the
Monroe Blues Festival this fall and Debbie Davies who
I have missed a few times there. One of these days I
will be in the right place at the right time to get
there. So many bands and so little time . . . sigh.

With a power outage at the time, only one paramedic
responded to the call. The house was very, very dark, so
the paramedic asked Katelyn, a 3-year-old girl, to hold a
flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he
helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Katelyn did as
she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed, and after a little
while, Connor was born.

The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked
him on his bottom.

Connor began to cry.

The paramedic then thanked Katelyn for her help and asked
the wide-eyed 3-year old what she thought about what she
had just witnessed.

Katelyn quickly responded, "He shouldn't have crawled in
there in the first place. Smack him again."

One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on
a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his
son how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what
would be considered a very poor family. On their return from
their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

It was great, Dad."

Did you see how poor people live?" asked the father.

Oh yeah," said the son.

So tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they
had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of
our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have
the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard
and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of
land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our
sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve
others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us, they have
friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, Thanks,
Dad, for showing me how poor we are."

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what
would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have,
instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate
every single thing you have, especially your friends.

A BLESSED CHRISTMAS!

"Things you have to believe to be a Republican today."

o Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime,
unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an
illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

o The United States should get out of the United Nations,
and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N.
resolutions against Iraq.

o Government should relax regulation of Big Business and
Big Money but crack down on individuals who use marijuana
to relieve the pain of illness.

o "Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers
and moving their jobs to India.

o A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own
body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions
affecting all mankind without regulation.

o Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals
and Hillary Clinton.

o The best way to improve military morale is to praise
the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits
and combat pay.

o Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins unless you
someday run for governor of California as a Republican.

o If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't
have sex.

o A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-
time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

o HMOs and insurance companies have the interest of the
public at heart.

o Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy.
Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

o Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk
science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

o Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a
bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good
guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy
when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

o A president lying about an extramarital affair is an
impeachable offense. A president lying to enlist support
for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

o Government should limit itself to the powers named
in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages
and censoring the Internet.

o The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle
trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our
business.

o You support states' rights, which means Attorney General
John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives
they have a right to adopt.

o What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national
interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

o Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist,
but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of
international harmony.
